  • Pass the lovely quayside lined with boats of all description, see the locally named Devils Eyebrow and Slaire Woods.
  • Begin your riverside walk along the Barrow Track heading north this walk runs parallel with the Barrow Navigation. The walk will then turn up into an old woodland filled with beautiful old trees and viewing points looking out over the River Barrow and Clashganny weir. Depending on the time of year you may see lots of different plants and animals like Wild Garlic and carpets of Bluebells in Spring, Foxgloves, Meadowsweet and lots of birdsong in Summer or Red Squirrels and Mushrooms in Autumn. This will take approximately 30/45 mins and is approx 2km.
  • This walk brings us to our starting point for your river adventure in Clashganny.
  • On arrival in Clashganny we will get geared up in the public changing facilities on site are available if necessary. Everybody will be provided with the required gear including buoyancy jackets and helmets. We will also have some barrels so you can put your personal items in them while on the river adventure such as a change of clothing, water or your walking boots etc.
  • Safety chat before beginning the canoeing trail and a demonstration on how to hold the paddle and what strokes to use that will help you navigate your canoe. We will have a 10 minute warm up in the Old Harbor. This is an area of flat calm water to learn the basics, build your confidence and then off we go. There will be experienced personnel on the water with you.
  • The trail then heads down river where you can Go With The Flow and take in breath-taking views. You will experience paddling on both the natural River Barrow and the canal navigation.
  • We then paddle to the double lock at Ballykeenan where we will tell you some history about the old lock houses and lock keepers. You will see exactly how the locks operate as we drop down through them to continue on our journey to the next section of the river.
  • The journey continues down the river concluding where the walking journey began in Graiguenamanagh.
